Sunshine Corp Outreach Ministry

The Sunshine Corps is aware of both the opportunity and obligation to serve and minister to nursing home residents, those incarcerated in jails and prisons, the hungry, and the homeless. It’s a faithful Christian witness.

They recruit workers and volunteers by letting people know there is a great need in the various ministries. They encourage them to participate in more than one of them.

The Sunshine Corps passes our literature and cards to nursing home residents, the sick and shut-in, the hospitalized, inmates in prisons & jails, and those on the street.

Their main goal is to spread the good news and minister to those in need.

Hospitality Ministry

The purpose of the Hospitality Ministry is to bring honor and glory to God by providing a warm spirit of Christian friendliness to all guests so that each guest will feel our genuine Christian warmth, and first-time visitors will return.

Hospitality is " the window to the church." A smile and a warm hello can go a long way not only to newcomers but to all of the church body. Committed members who are concerned and sensitive to the needs of others are a vital ingredient to the hospitality of Goodwill. We are ambassadors for Christ and the church as a whole.

The Hospitality Ministry fulfills a very important role when people gather for worship. How they do their tasks, how they deal with people, how they conduct themselves, their appearance, their sense of reverence, and their ability to convey authentic hospitality—all of these can have a great influence on the way people react to the church. They are perceived as "exhibit A" of the congregation’s nature and mission. By the time visitors reach the sanctuary, they have already formed an opinion.

Every person who comes to church has a common need of acceptance. To a visitor, warmth, genuine friendliness, and caring are the most important qualities of a church and visitors seem to know immediately if they are in a place of welcome and acceptance.

No matter how great the music or how helpful the sermon, what happens upon arrival and departure makes a lasting impression on people who visit the church. When people return home, the impressions and opinions of the church and especially that of the congregation have been significantly shaped by the kind of hospitality that was provided.

For God did not give us a spirit of timidity, but a spirit of power, of love and of self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7
Share with God’s people who are in need. Practice hospitality. Romans 12:13
Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. Offer hospitality to one another without grumbling. 1 Peter 4:8-9

Hospitality volunteers make that kind of difference!

Media Ministry

Our Media Ministry provides CD recordings of all our worship services and programs. The CD's are available to all members and are also used as an outreach ministry to our sick and shut-in.  The CD's are cataloged and available upon request.  Our focus in the coming months is to offer videos as a part of this ministry.

Usher Ministry

Goodwill Missionary Baptist Church is blessed with three Usher Ministries:

  • Senior Usher Board
  • Usher Board #3
  • Youth & Junior Board

The mission of the Ushering Ministry is to provide comfort and promote the fellowship necessary in God's house.

Church Ushers are doorkeepers in the house of God, and guard same at all times. As an officer of the church, the usher aids the Pastor by "ministering" to the congregation to ensure a right attitude and spirit for receiving the proclaimed message. This is done in such ways as:

  • Greeting persons with a smile
  • Extending a warm welcome
  • Directing persons to a comfortable seat
  • Maintaining order at all times, for God is not the author of confusion

A good usher must have Christ-like minds with Christ-like ways, and is like a lamp on a stand, "not put under a bushel, but on a candlestick that giveth light unto all that are in the house." (Matthew 5:15).

The Usher must make "oneself a committee of one, to help one another" in fulfilling God's plan of teaching and serving.

The Ushers' MOTTO is:

"If every Usher were just like me - What would this Usher Board be?"

  • The Usher is a "forerunner" preparing the Sanctuary for worship by ensuring that it is in proper condition.
  • The Usher aids in promoting harmony and fellowship with the parishioners.
  • The Usher is responsible for ensuring order in all things upon approaching the entrance, entering, and throughout the "Order of Worship".
  • The Usher is responsible for collecting the offerings.
  • The Usher is the "doorkeeper" of the House of God.
